a5c7b9f00b French college students, Marie and Alex, head to Alex's secluded farmhouse in hopes of studying for their exams without distractions. While settling in, a man breaks into the home and brutally murders Alex's family while Marie tries to hide herself from the killer. When the killer binds and kidnaps Alex, Marie follows him, attempting saving her friend and, along the way, running into some dangerous obstacles.
Alexia travels with her friend Marie to spend a couple of days with her family in their farm in the country. They arrive late and they are welcomed by Alexia's father. Late in the night, a sadistic and sick killer breaks into the farmhouse, slaughters Alexia's family–including their dog–and kidnaps Alexia. Marie hides from the criminal and tries to help the hysterical and frightened Alexia, chase the maniac, and disclose his identity in the end.
I've just been seeing a lot of films lately, especially in the horror genre where they are making these stories into the big mystery thrillers. It's just getting old, because this movie could have worked so well, but unfortunately the story just went into a very strange direction, even to the point where I'm not sure where anyone could understand this film. The story is very gruesome, very Texas Chainsaw Massacre style, very gory, but I always did love a good gory movie, I think we all need one, but this one just could have continued into a great story and turned into a strange thriller.<br/><br/>Two best friends are going across the country for a party and they stay at one of the girl's family's home. But the night doesn't exactly go smoothly when a big man rings the doorbell very late into the night and massacres this family, and I mean brutally. But he takes one of the girls, puts her in his truck, and drives off, but he doesn't realize that the other girl is loose and chases him to save her friend.<br/><br/>It's just a very strange movie, the lip syncing is of course a little off, due to the fact that this is a foreign film, it was kinda weird how they kept going from English to French to Italian singing. Well, I wouldn't really recommend this movie, it's alright, it just got turned into a very strange mystery that I'm not sure you can understand. I don't mean that in a bad way, because if anyone knows how the story worked, please send me an E-mail, it would be very much appreciated.<br/><br/>6/10
This beautiful piece of gory artwork, has really pushed me back into the genre that I left long ago without looking back. Alexandre Aja, an obvious fan of slasher films of the sixties, really delivers blood in buckets. This film came so close to being a perfect specimen of slasherama, until the ending, which I will not spoil for anyone. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that this film does not payoff, it does, but in no way does it payoff through the ending twist. My grudge with Lions Gate started a week ago, when I learned that this movie was going to be released in the united states. Not because they are releasing it in the US, but the fact that they have to cater to the American public,and the MPAA by not only cutting out some of the beautiful gore, but dubbing parts of it. I do not understand how an artist like Aja can stand for this type of desecration being inflicted onto his film. Please do not watch this film like this, its basically a completely different film from the original. Try and find it on DVD somewhere in the UK.
Deftly juggles gore and suspense, and punchline holds an intellectual frisson or two for fans of gender-role speculation, but basically this is one more horror pic on the distinguished road already trodden by "Texas Chain Saw Massacre," "Maniac" and the like.

The only problem with choosing the Original French Language Director's Cut Version is that the subtitles are not entirely accurate. There were lines added in the U.S. English Dubbed Version, so if you choose to view the film in French, the English subtitles will sometimes display lines that are not being said by anyone. For the US theatrical release, the film was rated R by the MPAA. To achieve this, the film had to be cut heavily. More than one minute of violence is missing in different scenes.<br/><br/>The Korean DVD is censoredwell. Nearly 1 minute is missing in this version. Yes–it's loosely based on the novel Intensity by Dean Koontz. A soundtrack album featuring François-Eudes Chanfrault's electronic score was supposed to be released by Thrive Records in the United States, but it was ultimately canceled. On the composer's official Web site (http://personal.computer.free.fr/web/) a link is available to stream "Faustina Mauricio Mercedes Part IV." If you dig deeply enough through the coding, however, about 30 minutes of audio from the score can be downloaded. The 2005 US DVD of High Tension had to be retouched before its release. However, the content that had to be removed from the movie was not of a violent nature,one might suspect. Instead, the Jack Daniel's logo was removed every time it could be seen. Unfortunately, we do not know why this happened and whether it was someone from Lionsgate or someone from Jack Daniel's who stepped in.
